Happy Friday!Did you know that every cell in your body undergoes a natural detoxification process? Pretty impressive if you ask me. But the majority of your natural detox happens in your GI tract, which is another reason to keep your gut in tip-top health. While what we eat significantly impacts our GI system, environmental toxins also play an important role. What are environmental toxins? Things like pollution, heavy metals, and chemicals found in food and personal care items. Hard as you may try, it’s impossible to avoid all environmental toxins. And since stress is just as detrimental to your health, the best thing you can do is limit your exposure as best you can. The first two toxins I recommend avoiding/swapping out are: Teflon and all non-stick cooking products. I know this can be a pain, but Teflon is considered a “forever chemical,” and I cannot stress how poisonous it is to the human body (Teflon was first developed to protect army tanks. Why it should ever come into contact with food is beyond me). Instead, use cast iron and/or stainless steel. Fragrance. This is in many personal care items, from body and dish soaps to shaving cream and perfumes; it can even be found in baby care products 💆♀️. Companies are not required to disclose the ingredients that make their fragrance, so we don’t really know what toxic chemicals are in there. Instead, look for fragrance-free, or if you must have a scent, use organic, 100% essential oil.

Bethany PS - if you want to learn more about Teflon, PFOA/PFAS, and forever chemicals, I highly recommend Dark Waters. It’s an Erin Brockovich-style movie, and so so good. I believe it’s based (at least loosely) on The Devil We Know. I haven’t seen that one yet, but it’s high on my list of movies to watch.
