Welcome to Sustainable Nutrition, LLC.This has been such a labor of love over the last 18 months, and it's hard to believe it's finally coming to fruition. Some of you receiving this I know personally, others only know me as Bill & Vicki's daughter or Chris' wife. Either way, I'm grateful for allowing me to land in your inbox introducing myself and this business that I am overwhelmingly passionate about and hoping beyond all hope is successful. I spoke with a life-long friend of my Dad's recently, and he said to me "there's real potential to have a significant impact with what you're doing." That struck me hard because that's exactly what I'm aiming to accomplish. It also choked me up, which is saying something! I have a lot to say about what I'm trying to do with Sustainable Nutrition; in fact, my first go at writing this newsletter was about three times this length! Even I realized that was too long, and let’s be honest, some of you won’t really be that interested! 😜 And that’s fine, no offense taken! I have no doubt though, as I get going and start sharing tips, tricks and other information, that my backstory and long-term goals will start to trickle out. At the end of the day, it’s what ultimately brought me to exactly where I am right now, writing this email and launching a business. I have a lot of goals I’m hoping to achieve by starting this business, but one of my main objectives in working with clients is to help them take small, manageable steps that will not only lead them to a healthier lifestyle, but ultimately, one that is sustainable. I want healthy choices to be second nature, not something that’s daunting or feels like some kind of obligation. I want to help people build a foundation, so that when life happens, they know they have something to come back to. Listen, no one is perfect. I've decided to study nutrition as a career and even I still fumble sometimes. Or I get sick. Or one of my kids gets sick. Or I have a busier than normal week. Or it’s that one time of year that I make my grandmother’s chocolate cake, and you can bet your you-know-what that I’m going to have some. But when the dust settles, even a minuscule amount, I know how to capitalize on it and get back on my feet. It takes some planning, prioritizing and having a few tricks up my sleeve, and that's what I want to share with clients. It doesn't need to be tricky or fancy, it just needs to work for you so it sticks with you. The last comment I want to make is about the name, Sustainable Nutrition. Coming up with a name is hard, at least it was for me. I rattled around a few ideas, getting a "yeah?" or shoulder shrug from my husband. But when I was trying to explain what it is I'm trying to do, I realized I was defining sustainability. My goal is not only to promote a sustainable diet, one that is long-lasting and second nature, but also a lifestyle that is good for us and our planet. I know I may lose some of you here, hopefully not, but I believe 100% that humans are having a detrimental impact on our planet. Chris & I work really hard everyday to make sure we are doing our part in sustaining the well-being of our home. And not just our home as in our house in Portland, but our home as in Planet Earth. We plant, we compost, we recycle, we have solar panels on our roof, we not only support local farmers, but local, regenerative farmers; we encourage our kids to get in the dirt, plant and learn where our food comes from, they turn off the water while they brush teeth, recycle their paper scraps and dispose of trash properly & don’t litter. Are we perfect? No. Do some of these things seem mundane? Maybe. But small steps add up, and, really, what is the harm in at least trying?
