Grilled Turkey Burgers

Shout out to my father-in-law, Frank, who introduced me to these turkey burgers when my husband and I first started dating. They are really easy, very versatile, and a staple in our freezer, especially in the summer. Turkey contains all nine essential amino acids making it a complete protein. It is also a good source of tryptophan (which helps make melatonin, our sleep hormone), and is loaded with B vitamins, zinc, phosphorus, and selenium.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey

  • 1/2 bell pepper, diced (could use chopped spinach, jalapeno, or banana peppers)

  • 1/4 red onion, diced

  • 1/3 cup feta cheese, crumbled (could use cheddar, blue cheese, or goat cheese)

  • Salt & pepper

  • Optional, whole grain buns

Instructions

  1. Dice peppers and onion, and crumble feta.

  2. Mix vegetables, cheese, salt & pepper into ground turkey. Divide into 4-5 patties.

  3. Grill on medium, medium-high for 5-6 minutes, flip and grill for 5-6 more minutes.

  4. We like to serve ours dipped in mustard and served alongside roasted potatoes & broccoli.

Note

We’ll often double this recipe and patty up 8-10 burgers and freeze half. They defrost really quickly and make a great last-minute meal!
